Not sure how long the walk in the park will last, but so far my treatments are going great. I don’t feel the radiation when I’m getting it, and it’s over in a flash (lol). My leg is turning green, but its the magic marker that they used to section off my leg like a quarter of beef (except this beef leg looks like it was starving, not much there). All that aside, I am so blessed. My Radiation Oncologist is a Chinese man, but I don’t think he is a believer. However, I did get to leave a witness with him today. We were talking about family. He shared that he had two boys, one five and the other three. I told him I’d been married for 29 years, had five children and three grandchildren. I shared with him that my wife was a school teacher and what my kids were doing with their lives and so forth. Then he said, “You’ll have to share your secret with me.” I replied, “I’d be delighted to share my secret with you. Years ago my wife and I didn’t have such a good marriage, and would it most likely would have fallen apart. However, we both gave our hearts to Jesus Christ and made Him the center of our lives and home, and He is the reason that I am such a blessed and rich man. That, is my secret.” His response was reserved, but respectful. I continued to share that I have zero fear, and zero anxiety over this cancer. I know that no matter what happens, it’s all good. He said, “I can tell that you are a very cheerful man.” Then he said, “It wouldn’t hurt to be a little anxious sometimes.”
I have had several opportunities to share with others who are there to get treatments. One woman is being treated for a brain tumor and I got to talk with her husband. They have been married for 56 years. It seemed like he was about ready to cry at one point and quickly made some light hearted remark to lighten the moment. His wife had surgery, but there was no way that they could get all the cancer, and so they are just trying to manage it with chemo and radiation. Another man had cancer in his femur, so they took it out, replacing it completely from his knee to his hip. They replaced both. He is using a walker and getting daily treatments. Another man was sitting in the waiting room; his wife too had recently been diagnosed with two brain tumors. She was in an auto accident and had to be taken to the hospital. While she was there they did some testing and found the brain tumors. They were so shocked. I know the feeling.
I would ask that each one of you who are believers and know how to pray; pray that God would use me there, each and every day to help someone. Pray that the Lord would allow me to be a comfort, a helper, a prayer partner with those other patients. Pray that God would give me favor with the staff, the doctors, the patients, and basically take over the entire place with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I want to be a good witness, in health and in sickness. I want to give glory to God when I have no cancer, and if I’m eaten up with cancer (which I’m not, just my leg). Pray for the success of the gospel, not just the healing of my cancer.
By the way, I want to say thanks to each and everyone of you for your prayers, your thoughts (if they were kind thoughts), and your concern and expressions of love. You have been so wonderful! I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to reply to each comment; there have been so many comments from so many people (which has been fantastic). Thank you for taking this journey with me. I pray that great and wondrous glory will be brought to Jesus Christ who died for me when I was a sinner, forgave me when I asked, washed me when I was filthy, blessed me when I was low, loves me unconditionally, and has prepared for me a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. To Him be all glory, honor and praise!
